The next story slam will be at 7p.m. Monday, July 12th at McGee’s Irish Pub in Anderson,SC. Reservations at reccomended. Call McGee’s at 864.261.6401.

If you’d like to tell a story, please take a look at our guidelines and send me a message here.

Guidelines for story slam stories:

Your story should:

be a personal and true (though, embellishments are welcome)

be told without notes have a beginning, middle, & end (It’s best to stick to one event rather than tell us ‘all about your childhood’.)

be 5-7 minutes long (We might not kick you off the stage, but we could lose interest. Make sure your story has a point- then get to it.)

Hope to see you all in July!

Thanks, Marie

When we started all this, our hope was that the story slam would build community. In this year we’ve seen that it takes a whole lot of community to build the story slam.

Sure, we had an idea, but that’s wasn’t enough.
We needed a charismatic MC to move things along smoothly.
We needed an awesome location with super-cool owners & staff (and great beer)
We needed willing story tellers (to my amazement they always show up and blow us away!)
We needed a devoted audience (and boy are you guys devoted!)
We needed friends of friends of friends to spread the word

When we put all the pieces of that puzzle together it worked!

We now know our old friends better than ever-we learned that David Gamble can smoke out a rat, Sarah Curnow once had a thing for Forenza, and Kim Lee will talk about ANYthing in front of a crowd.

And we have made new friends who we wouldn’t have met without the vehicle of the slam.

And we have laughed. A lot.
Laughing with a room full of people just brings about a feeling that is warm & fuzzy, all peace & love (though it could have been the Hobgoblin and hard cider :)

We imagine many of members of the audience have had a similar experiences. At our last slam, the room was so full that a waitress had to put one couple at a table with complete strangers. By the end of the night all those strangers were talking together like friends.
THAT’S what it’s all about!

(And it’s spreading- one night we had folks from three different towns come check us out because they want to start a story slam in their area. pretty cool!)
